MONT ALTO, PA- Entering at 7-7, on the back of two straight wins, the Patriots looked for their third straight. They got just that, on the back of
Jhanel Brown's 21 points and 21 rebounds. The Patriots would win 61-49.
Lindsay LeSueur opened up the scoring just 30 seconds into the game on an assist from
Mikala Brinson. Five minutes in
Jhanel Brown would hit a layup giving the Patriots a 4 point lead. Two minutes would go by before the next basket.
Mikala Brinson hit 1 of 2 from the line, and then after a Nittany Lion turnover,
Jhanel Brown would make another layup extending the lead to 7.With just under a minute left,
Lindsay LeSueur would give their biggest lead, 10, as she nailed a jumper. The first quarter would end with the Patriots up 9.
The Patriots extended their lead to 11 in the second quarter when again,
Jhanel Brown hit a layup putting them up 11 just two minutes in. It was Brown again at 3:39 pushing the lead to 12. The Nittany Lions were kept away, as they only managed to cut into that lead by 2, and went in at the half down 10, 37-27.
In the third quarter, four minutes in,
Mikala Brinson would hit a layup and give the biggest lead of the day so far at 16. The Nittany Lions came back however, cutting the lead to 7 by the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter got interesting, as the Nittany Lions pulled to within 4 with 7:20 to go. At 4:47 the lead was just 5. The Patriots would not allow themselves to be denied the win as they pulled back away, and won by 12, for your final 61-49.
Jhanel Brown had 21 points, 21 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 assists.
Lindsay LeSueur was only one rebound away from a double-double of her own. She had 12 points and 9 rebounds.
With the win the Patriots improve to 8-7 on the season. Head Coach
Gretchen LeVan said,
"We controlled the tempo of the game. We never lost the lead after the first quarter." In fact, the Patriots never lost the lead when they gained it with 5:31 remaining in that first quarter.
The Patriots will look to ride that 3 game winning streak on Sunday, when they host Medgar Evers College. Game time is set for 4:00PM.
