Softball Closes Out Regular Season

PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The University of Valley Forge Softball Team closed out their regular season on Thursday, April 30th against Summit University of Pennsylvania.  The Patriots dropped both games of the double-header, losing by final scores of 15-4 and 19-6.  It was also the last set of games for seniors' Amanda McGinness and Sarah Brugere

Game one got off to a back and forth start as both teams scored 3 runs in the opening frame.  McGinness and Brugere each drove in a run in the opening inning.  However, the Patriots defensive woes prevented them from staying close to Summit for much longer.  The defenders scored 11 runs over the next two innings and took a commanding lead, 14-3.  Defensively, the Patriots committed 11 errors during the game.

Amanda McGinness finished with a strong game at the plate, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a double.  Sophomore Jolyn Jones also had a great game at the plate.  She went a perfect 3 for 3.

The Patriots got down early in game two, 10-0, before their bats woke up and provided some offense.  They scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the lead in half.  However, the Defenders provided too much offensively for the Patriots to keep up.  They rattled off 8 runs in the 4th inning and went on to win 19-6.

The Patriots finished their season with a record of 5-25, showing an improvement from the previous season.

Senior Amanda McGinness had a stand-out season, all the while battling a knee injury.  She had an astounding .479 batting average and led the team in doubles (11), home runs (1), and RBI's (31).

Freshman Naomi Thompson shows a lot of promise for the future, as she had a .372 batting average for the season and led the team in hits (35), and runs scored (24).

Pitcher Rachel Daniels hit .300 for the season and Samantha Reed had a .284 batting average.  Reed also led the team in stolen bases (6).

Senior Catcher Sarah Brugere also had a solid season.  She hit .276 for the season and threw-out 8 base runners attempting to steal.

Thank you to our Seniors for a great 4 years of Patriots Softball!

Go Patriots!
