PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The Unviersity of Valley Forge Softball Team played host to Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon. Before the game, Patriots' seniors
Amanda McGinness and
Sarah Brugere were honored for their careers. Both players have played big roles throughout their time with the program.
Game one saw the Gryphons jump out to a big early lead, and they went on to win 10-1.
However, game two provided a lot of drama for the home crowd. Again the Patriots got down early, 6-1 in the third inning, but they were able to rally and actually take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. They were able to capitalize on a few errors, and got clutch hits from several players.
Amanda McGinness doubled in
Samantha Reed to make it 6-4. Then, Jolyn Jones,
Rachel Daniels, and
Naomi Thompson all hit RBI singles to take a 7-6 lead!
Sarah Lawrence responded by scoring three runs in each of the next two innings and took a 12-10 lead heading into the 6th inning. With two runners on base, Gryphons' Riley Vuyovich tripled in two runs to give their pitcher some insurance runs. The Patriots were unable to mount another rally and went on to lose by a final score of 16-13.
Freshman
Naomi Thompson continued her strong season with a 4 for 5 effort in game two. She also had 4 RBI's and 4 runs scored. Junior
Emily Cantrell also had a great game, going 3 for 4 from the plate. McGinness, Jones, and Daniels each had a pair of hits.
The Patriots next contest will be Sunday, April 26th at Home against PSU Schuylkill at 2PM.
