Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Down To The Wire

BROOKLYN, NY – In their second game in as many days, the Valley Forge Men's Basketball Team lost in the final minute against St. Joseph's College on Saturday, January 31st

The Bears of St. Joseph's came into the contest holding a perfect record at home and a 13-7 record overall.  It was a good test on the road for the Patriots.  Valley Forge played very well in the first half, holding a lead by many as ten points, but the Bears found a way to keep things close.  They had David Louison to thank for that.  The Bears' senior forward scored 21 first half points on 9 for 11 shooting.  He finished with a game-high 35 points.  The Patriots used some hot shooting from the outside, 7 for 13 from 3-point range, to build a 41-38 lead at halftime.

The game remained close all the way through the second half.  With the game tied at 73 with 2:27 remaining, Patriots' Kevin Mack hit a jumper to take the lead.  The Bears then countered with back-to-back layups from Louison and Michael Megafu to take back the lead.  Then, with a little more than a minute to play, Patriots' Brandon Rembert hit a 3-pointer to give them a one-point lead!  The back and forth continued as Bears' Matt O'Neill hit a layup with 48 seconds remaining, and the Bears once again had the lead, 79-78.  However, this time the Patriots did not have an answer and the Bears held on for the win, 82-78.

Patriots' Jonathan Kinyanjui was a big lift off the bench.  He scored all 12 of his points from 3-point range on 4-7 shooting.  Mack led the team in scoring with 21 points on 10-18 from the field.  Rembert also had a solid effort, scoring 14 points and racking up 7 assists.

It was a tough loss for Valley Forge, but they don't have any time to ponder what could have been.  They have a quick turnaround with a home meeting against McDaniel College on Monday, February 2nd at 7PM @ The Pit.
