KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA – In the opening game of the Johnson University Florida Invitational, the Valley Forge women's basketball team went up against Bob Jones University.
The opening half proved to be a defensive battle with both teams struggling to score.
Naomi Thompson got the Patriots off to a good start with the first bucket of the game. Unfortunately, this would be the only time the Patriots led. Bob Jones used a patient and balanced attack to build a 22-8 lead at halftime.
The Patriots opened the second half with a jumper from
Bailey Mayforth, but Bob Jones fired back with a 3-pointer from Julia Wright. It seemed to spark Bob Jones as they went on a 29-3 scoring run.
Madison Arrowsmith did her best to get the Patriots back in the game, draining three 3-pointers. She led the team with 9 points. However, Bob Jones pulled away and won by a final score of 69-28.
On Friday, the Patriots will take on Clearwater Christian College at 6:00pm in the second day of the tournament.
