Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Records First Season Win!

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The men's soccer team was matched up against Penn State Schuylkill, Monday, September 8, in a match that found both sides in pursuit of their first win for this 2014 season.

The first half began with even, back and forth play in which both teams put their offensive and defensive abilities on display.  Neither team seemed to be yielding an inch, until the 16:52 mark when Kevin Carbajal ripped a beautiful shot from the right side that ricocheted off of the post and found the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead!  The teams settled back in and continued to trade chances for the next 20 minutes until Penn State's offense grabbed the momentum and ran with it with two corner kicks and two goals on three shots in a span of four minutes, the second of which on a header by Cole Schwalm.  The end of the half came with VFCC down 2-1, but far from out of this game.

Three minutes into the second half, Selom Dodoh scored on an assist by Carbajal to bring the two sides even at 2-2.  Twelve minutes later, Zachary Bowerman put one by the Penn State keeper on an assist by Matthew Robinson to give the Patriots the lead for good.  The Patriots controlled the flow of the game throughout the contest, all the while exhibiting a high level of not only soccer I.Q. but also teamwork, as they utilized good positioning and crisp passing on their way to two more goals.  Dodoh scored his second goal on the contest at the 82:01 mark, and a fortunate series of bounces after a VFCC corner kick led to an own goal by Penn State at the 87th minute of the contest.  The Patriots maintained their vice grip on the game for the final three minutes and ended the contest with a 5-2 victory.

The Patriots travel to play East Region opponent, Cairn University, on Wednesday, September 10 at 4PM.
