ALFRED, NY- The women's volleyball traveled to Alfred State College to participate in a tri-match with host school Alfred State and Central Penn College. The Lady Patriots split the tri-match falling to Alfred State, 0-3, but rebounded nicely by sweeping the Central Penn Knights, 3-0.
It was a slow start for the women as the first set and the beginning of the second set presented a sluggish Patriot team. The women were constantly caught on their heels and out of system giving the host school a double digit lead and dropped both sets, 9-25. Finally in set three, the women started to come alive, utilizing their serving and all three hitters to create longer rallies with the Pioneers. Despite losing the third set, 14-25, the team showed vast improvement.
Shelby Shepherd tallied four kills while Brittany Eberly gathered 10 digs.
Refusing to leave without a win, the Lady Patriots carried the moment they created in the third set against Alfred State into their match with Central Penn College. Covering every inch of the floor and using aggressive serves, the women captured victory in three straight sets, 25-7, 25-12 and 25-12.
Mackenzie Thibodeau led the team in aces with five, along with five digs and six assists. Brittany Eberly commanded the back row with 10 digs in addition to four aces. Gabrielle Martin notched eight kills in the match.
The Lady Patriots return home for their next match, hosting Penn State Harrisburg. The game is set for Wednesday, September 17, at 7PM!
