Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops Two To Bison

WASHINGTON, D.C.-  The Lady Patriots kicked off their 2014 season with a double-header against Gallaudet University.  The women got off to a shaky start, dropping both games to the Bison, 0-13 in the first game and 0-11 in the second.

Without stepping on a field due to weather and facing a team with six games behind them, jitters got the best of the Patriots.  Offensively the women couldn't get the bats going, combining for just four hits in total on the day.  In game one, the Bison were able to record all 11 of their runs within the first three innings before the Patriots cooled their streak in the fourth.

In game two, the Patriots allowed a few batters on base early with walks.  Combined with fielding errors the women were unable to gain traction against the host school.  After the first inning the Patriots were just down by four.  Two additional runs in the second inning put the Bison ahead, 6-0.  A glimpse of relief came in the third with neither team crossing home plate. A hope of a comeback went away as the Bison released an arsenal of runs, to go up by seven more, 13-0, by the close of the inning.

"We showed flashes offensively and defensively of improvement.  We are very excited to rest up over spring break and come back rejuvenated and ready for the season to pick up in full gear," stated Head Coach Blair Dameron.

The women travel again for their next matchup against Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, March 18.  The Patriots start the first of the two games at 3pm.
