BALTIMORE, MD- The University of Valley Forge's Women's Basketball Team opened the 2014-2015 season with a road game at Goucher University. Riddled with turnovers and first game jitters, the Patriots were outscored 72 points by the Gophers.
After a few minutes of back and forth turnovers, the Goucher Gophers shed their first game jitters and went on a 31-1 run against the Patriots. UVF couldn't come up with an answer for the Gophers size and athleticism as they were held to shooting just 5% from the floor. The Patriots went into the locker room facing an 8-56 point deficit.
Back from the half the women started to play a smoother game but continuous turnovers helped the Gophers maintain a solid lead. Unable to create enough open shots to catch up to the host school, the women dropped their first game, 25-97.
In the loss
Mikala Brinson recorded six points, four steals and four rebounds, while
Ariene Ohimor had nine rebounds, two points and one steal.
Freshman
Bailey Mayforth notched five points, five rebounds and one steal in her first college basketball game.
"First game jitters are out...On to the next one." stated Head Coach Gretchen Levan about tonight's loss.
The women return home for the annual Holiday Inn Express Tip-Off Classic, November 20-22. The Patriots will compete against Cairn University in the first round on Thursday, November 20 at 6PM.
Go Patriots!
