CLARKS SUMMIT, PA- The men's soccer team traveled to East Region opponent, Baptist Bible College, Saturday, October 25, to compete in the NCCAA II East Region Championship. It was a tight game from start to finish but the Defenders would get the last say as they defeated the Patriots, 3-0.
For thirty minutes the two teams challenged each other, playing the game between the 18's. The Defenders strained to get the upper hand, taking long shots at the Patriot's goal. At 31:32, BBC's Ben Howell received a pass from Kyle Brassard and raced up the field. Patriot defender
Preston Saunders had one chance to stop Howell but hesitate a little too long and was out-maneuvered. Free of his defenders, Howell shot the ball from the left side and into the net to put the Defenders up, 1-0.
Down just 0-1, the Patriots continued to push throughout the second half. As the team's offense attempted to break through the Defender's defensive line, they were foiled at every turn. At 52:45 a scary moment occurred when a BBC player collided with UVF goalie,
Zach Barbieri. After leaving the field, the Defenders were awarded a penalty kick. Wesley Pincince stepped up for his team and made good on the PK to push the Defenders lead, 2-0.
Twenty minutes later at 72:01, the Defenders sealed the Patriots fate with another goal from Kyle Brassard. Following a shot from fellow teammate Connor Ellsworth, Brassard headed the ball past the Patriot's goalie and into the net to make the score, 3-0.
The Patriot fought to get to get on the board but the combination of the Defenders goalie and defensive line wouldn't allow it and the game came to a close.
Zach Barbieri recorded nine saves after facing 12 shots on goal.
Selom Dodoh notched the single shot of the game for the Patriots.
Go Patriots!
