TAKOMA PARKS, PA- The Lady Patriots traveled to Washington Adventist University to compete in their final games of the season. The women first competed against host school, Washington Adventist University before taking on Trinity Washington University. The women had a solid night, sweeping both teams, 3-0!
Starting off against the Lady Shock of Washington Adventist, the Lady Patriots found themselves unable to sink into a system. The teams were neck and neck throughout the set, until Valley Forge grabbed a four point lead, 22-18. The Lady Shock nipped at the Patriots' heels but only got within two points, 20-22.
Aubrie McQuown laid down a kill, 23-25, followed by two strong aces from
Olivia Wireman. The women finished out the set, 25-20.
It was all serves in set two as the Lady Patriot built a solid buffer between themselves and the Lady Shock. Getting the host school out of system, the Lady Patriots played to their own tempo and recorded a series of kills and aces to cruise to a 25-14 victory.
After giving up a two points to the Lady Shock, Valley Forge pushed a seven point lead, 9-2, and never looked back. A few mishaps here and there allowed the Shock to get within five points of the Lady Patriots, 15-20, but it slow up Valley Forge's attacks. The team worked together to earn the 25-19 set and match victory.
Looking to cap their season with another win, the Lady Patriot competed in their second match of the night against the Trinity Washington University Lady Tigers. Fatigue hit Valley Forge hard as they slid into an eight point deficit, 4-12. A quick timeout breathed life back into the women as they got the ball back and
Brittany Eberly stepped up to serve. Tough serves from Eberly allowed the women to go on a nine-point run and taking the lead, 13-12! The teams went back and forth, reaching for the first set victory. Tied at 22-22, Lady Patriot
Faith Bachman recorded a kill to put the team up, 23-22, before a Trinity attack error put them within set point, 24-22. But the Lady Lions weren't going away just yet, tying the team and taking the one point lead, 25-24. It was anyone's game, until finally the Patriots went up one, 28-27, off of a Trinity serving error and capture the set, 29-27, as a tough serve created an attacking error for Trinity.
The Lady Patriots quickly corrected their errors, going up 8-0, with a combination of kills from
Madison Arrowsmith and
Gabrielle Martin. The women continued to dominate the Tigers with aces, smoothly taking set two, 25-8. Set three followed suit, as the Lady Patriots seemed unstoppable at the net. Strong serves once again from
Brittany Eberly and an assortment of attacks from the front line guided the Lady Patriots to a 25-15 set and match victory!
The team finished the regular season, 14-10. It is the first time in seven years the program has recorded a winning season.
