PHOENIXVILE, PA- The University of Valley Forge Women's Soccer Team celebrated their Senior Day hosting The King's College. The women were outmatched and gave up the contest, 0-8.
Before the start of the game, the Department of Athletics honored the three senior women's soccer players,
Amanda McGinness,
Loren Metallo and
Leesha Brugere. McGinness and Metallo have dedicated the past four years to the program, with McGinnes starting off playing center-mid before transitioning to goalie and Metallo playing forward. Brugere joined the program in 2013 and played defense.
In a display of great sportsmanship both teams agreed upon a scenario that would allow injured Senior goalie
Amanda McGinness to save the first shot of the game, before being substituted out. McGinness was injured in a previous game, ending her soccer season prematurely. The moment allowed her to participate in her final home game, a moment in which she had been looking forward to for the past four years.
Unfortunately that would be the easiest save of the game as McGinness's replacement,
Caitlin LaFountain, faced a barrage of 26 in the first half of the match. The Knight's were able to make good on two of their shots, taking a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Throughout the second half, the Knight's continued to attack the Lady Patriot's goal. Even though the team took fewer shots, their attempts were more precise and the visitors recorded an additional six goals before the end of the game.
Kelsey Morrinson attempted to revive the Lady Patriot's offense, taking the only two shots of the game, one early on in the first period and early again in the second period.
The Lady Patriots will remain at home for their final regular season match, hosting Penn State Beaver. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, with a 2PM start time.
Go Patriots!
