On Saturday, April 6, 2013, the Valley Forge Christian College men's baseball was defeated by Marywood University in back-to-back games of a double header.
The Patriots lost Game 1 by a score of 10-2. First-year player
David Smith pitched a complete game for the Patriots. In six innings, Smith struck out a pair and walked two batters. Marywood would work him for 11 hits and nine earned runs.
On the flip side, Marywood's pitchers Rene Muriel and Brian Nargi allowed just three hits and two runs combined in the Game 1 victory.
In Game 1, the Patriots'
Jared Boothman recorded two hits, one RBI, and a stolen base in three plate appearances. Matthew McKenzie also recorded a hit for the Patriots.
The Patriots lost Game 2 by a final score of 12-1. With a leadoff triple in the first inning by
Sam Sheesley and sacrifice fly by Jacob Moritz, the Patriots opened the game with a run. However, the Patriots would go scoreless the rest of the way. Meanwhile, Marywood University tacked on runs in five of six innings in which they batted, securing the win.
Sam Sheesley, Jacob Moritz, and
Bryce Koch would each record a hit.
The Patriots' Game 2 pitching duties were shared by
Bryce Koch and Jacob Moritz.
Marywood improved to a 5-11 overall record and put a halt to their 7-game losing streak.
After the double header losses, the Patriots dropped to a 0-13 regular season record and are still searching for their first win of 2013.
The Patriots hope to add a tally mark in the win column Monday, April 8, during their double header road match-up against Penn State Schuylkill.
