PHOENIXVILLE, PA- After waiting a month and a half to play their first home game, the women's softball team came ready to win, Wednesday, April 10, hosting the Washington Adventist University Shock. The Patriots defeated the Shock with a final score of 11-1!
At the bottom of the third inning, both teams had managed to place girls on base, but neither was able to bring in the runs. With two outs against them and one runner on base, the Lady Patriots looked to get the game going. A single from
Corinne Hunsicker followed by a throwing error, allowing
Elizabeth Swan to reach first, brought two runs in for the home team.
The Lady Shock answered right back at the top of the fourth, playing off of the Patriots errors to round the bases and bring in one run before the inning came to an end. It would be the only run the Shock would earn, as the Patriots played to the crowd and earned five runs in the fifth and four runs in the bottom of the sixth, to end the game and win their first home game!
Jaclynn Nichols pitched six straight innings, striking out ten batters and giving up just one run.
Samantha Reed went 3-for-3 at the plate, earning three runs and two RBI's. Reed hit two doubles on the night.
Corinne Hunsicker went 1-for-3 at the plate, bringing in two runs and two RBI's.
Whitney LaPointe went 2-for-3, earning two runs, while
Amanda McGinness went 2-for-4, scoring two runs and one RBI.
The Lady Patriots play host to Penn-State Harrisburg for their next matchup on Friday, April 12. The double-header is scheduled to start at 4pm.
Go Patriots!
