PHOENIXVILLE, PA – The Valley Forge Christian College men's basketball team defeated the Cairn University Highlanders on Tuesday, February 19, in an NCCAA East Region postseason match-up.
With the victory, the Patriots extended their season and will advance to the East Region championship game. The Patriots will travel to Lancaster Bible College, with hopes of retaining the status of East Region champion.
Against Cairn, the Patriots jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. In general, the Patriots put forth good all-around effort, limiting Highlander field goals, and obtaining contributions from several Valley Forge players. The final score was 96-47.
Sophomore
Jean LeBlanc scored a career-high 21 points, while shooting 8-for-10 from the field.
Senior
Donnell Davis chose a great night to pump out a season-high 19 points.
Donnell Davis was honored at half-time for completing a four-year athletic career with the Patriots. Davis also finished with five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
Sophomore
Michael Ayala added 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, which included a 3-for-6 showing from the three-point line.
Junior
Lance Harris tallied 14 points and finished with five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Freshman
Jonathan Dukes earned 12 points, six boards, three assists and three steals.
Freshman
Domenick Bond also reached double-digits in scoring with 11 points.
The defining factor of the game was the Patriots' pressure defense. The Patriots were able to force 27 turnovers out of the Cairn Highlanders, which attributed to 39 points of the Patriots' 96 points. Additionally, the Patriots' bench came in and made significant contributions, scoring more than half of the team's points (49 points).
The Patriots' playoff match-up with Lancaster Bible College will take place this Friday, February 22, 2013. The winner of that game will be named the 2013 NCCAA East Region Champions!
