PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Patriots men's basketball team competed in the second day of the Assemblies of God Tournament, tonight, January 11, 2013. The Patriots were matched up against the quick Trinity Bible College, but came out on top, defeating the Lions, 95-84!
Trinity Bible College jumped out to an early nine point lead during the first five minutes of the game. The Patriots battled back but were unable to pull away until the final minutes of the half. There were nine lead changes and five ties within the first half. The Patriots held a seven point advantage going into the break.
During the break, the Valley Forge coaching staff stressed the importance of limiting Trinity Bible's transition offense. The coaches felt that the Patriots did a poor job of getting back defensively in the first half.
In the second half the Patriots did a much better job of controlling the tempo. They limited Trinity Bible to just 33% shooting from the field, compared to the 48% they shot in the first half. The Patriots also did a much better job in the second half at controlling the boards. The Patriots out-rebounded Trinity Bible, 27-19 in the second-half and 47-33 for the game.
As the second-half unfolded the Patriots gained a sizable lead. With 6:19 left to go, the Patriots were up by 24 points (88-64). During the last five minutes, Trinity Bible put together a run to reduce the lead, but it would not be enough and the Patriots walked away with the victory!
Lance Harris tallied an impressive 22 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Senior
Kevin Mack recorded 20 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. Mack was 4-for-4 at the charity strip.
Jonathan Dukes scored his first double-double of the season, notching 13 points and 12 rebounds. Dukes also had four assists and one steal.
Dominic Cain made an impression with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Jean LeBlanc tallied 12 points for the night.
The Patriots remain undefeated in the Classic and will face Ohio Christian University, tomorrow, January 12, 2013 for the AG Classic Championship title! Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm!
