Lady Patriots Win in Comeback Fashion

Box Score

PHOENIXVILLE, PA
- After succumbing to a eleven point halftime deficit, the VFCC Lady Patriots basketball team defeated the Profs of Rowan University on Tuesday night (Feb. 7) by a final score of 79-66.  After being held to just 25 first half points, the Lady Patriots exploded for 54 second half points en route to the victory.  Tonight's win brings VFCC's season record to 9-15 with five games remaining.

Valley Forge got off to a slow start, allowing the Profs to grab a nine point lead halfway through the first, and found themselves in an eleven point hole at halftime.  After the break, the Lady Patriots showed signs of life, inching their way closer to Rowan.  As they reached the midway point of the half, they were able to reel in the Profs and bring the score to a tie.  It was all Valley Forge from there as they controlled the tempo of the game, putting Rowan on their heels.  After three consecutive made three-pointers by Amanda Reich in the waning minutes, Valley Forge was able to pull away for the much needed victory.

Valley Forge was able to dominate the boards against Rowan (43-28), a key to tonight's victory.  The Lady Patriots also shot an impressive 55% from the field (18-for-33), while holding the Profs to shooting just 30% in the game.

Leading the way for the Lady Patriots was junior Amanda Reich who finished the game with a season high 34 points scored, including making 7 baskets from beyond the three-point arc.  Reich found her groove in the second half, dropping 26 of her game high points.  She was also 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

Senior Keionna Jackson finished with the games only double-double, adding 10 points and eleven rebounds to her season tally.

Junior Amanda Compton was just one rebound shy of a double-double, dropping 16 points and grabbing 9 boards.

Junior Morgan Godwin finished with 12 points scored.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action on Thursday night (Feb. 9) when they host East Region rival, Philadelphia Biblical University.  The Lady Patriots dropped an earlier season meeting to PBU by a final of 53-51, after missing a last second attempt to tie.  Game time will be 6:00 pm at the "Pit" gymnasium.
