Lady Patriots Advance to East Region Championship

Box Score

PHOENIXVILLE, PA
- The VFCC women's basketball team defeated the Crimson Eagles of Philadelphia Biblical University in the semi-final round of the NCCAA II East Region tournament by a final score of 62-46. With tonight's win, the Lady Patriots will advance to face top seeded Lancaster Bible College on Thursday night (Feb. 23).  Tonight the VFCC Athletics Department recognized Keionna Jackson, the lone graduating senior for the Lady Patriots during pre-game.

#10 Keionna Jackson – Keionna is in her fourth year playing for the Lady Patriots.  She has come on strong in the past three weeks, playing a vital role in the team's push to the post season, averaging close to a double-double, and helping the Lady Patriots win five out of their last six games.  Just last week in the Lady Patriots' final home game of the season, she recorded a career best 18 points and 11 rebounds en route to the win.  Keionna has recorded a career high three double-double in the second half of this season, and has also recorded career highs in steals, minutes played, and field goal percentage this season.  Keionna's statists aren't a true reflection on her impact to the team this year however.  From her freshman season until now, she has grown and matured greatly on the court and in her relationship with the Lord.  Coach Reggie Chapple said that Keionna has been a great joy to coach in her final season with the Lady Patriots.

Now back to the game…

The Lady Patriots never trailed in tonight's semi-final matchup.  To start the game, Valley Forge opened up with a 7-2 lead, and midway through the first half that lead grew to double digits.  VFCC led by as many as 15 points in the half, and carried a 33-12 lead into halftime.  After the break, the Lady Patriots open their lead and led by as many as 26 points late in the game.  The Crimson Eagles did their best to pull themselves within striking distance, but they were kept out of reach by Valley Forge's aggressive defensive play as the Lady Patriots cruised to victory.

The Lady Patriots were led tonight by junior Aliyah Carr who finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Carr was followed by junior Morgan Godwin who also dropped 13 points.

Senior Keionna Jackson finished just one point shy of her fourth double-double of the season, ending with 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Junior Amanda Compton finished with 9 points and a game high 15 rebounds.

Junior Vanity Jones led the team in steals with 3.

For the Crimson Eagles in the loss, Elyse Ceide led all scorers with 14 points and 9 rebounds.  She was followed by Haley Weber who finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds, while Hannah McCardle added 11 points of her own.

Up next for the Lady Patriots is the NCCAA II East Region final matchup on Thursday night (Feb. 23).  The Lady Patriots will travel to #1 seed Lancaster Bible College to play for the region championship and an automatic berth into the NCCAA II National Tournament.  During the regular season, the Lady Patriots were defeated by LBC by a 76-66 final, a game which was also hosted by the Lady Chargers.
