BALTIMORE, MD - The VFCC Lady Patriots closed out the 2011-2012 regular season with a win over The College of Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday (Feb. 18) by a final score of 75-54. The Lady Patriots finish the regular season with a 14-16 record, and have won five out of their last six games.
After a back and forth beginning of the game, the Lady Patriots found themselves down by 6 points (18-12) midway through the first half. Valley Forge reclaimed the lead and pulled away leading by as many as 11 in the waning minutes of the first half. The second half was controlled by Valley Forge as they traded buckets with the Gators. Notre Dame closed to within four points, but with 7:00 to play the Lady Patriots opened up another double digit lead and never looked back.
As a team, the Lady Patriots recorded a season high 21 steals. They forced Notre Dame into 27 turnovers, while only committing 19 of their own. They were also able to hold their opponent to under 30 percent in shooting from the field. VFCC did was however beaten on the boards. Although they grabbed a better than season average 37 rebounds, Notre Dame recorded 50 rebounds, the most allowed by Valley Forge all season long. 30 of the Lady Patriots' 37 rebounds came on the defensive end.
Leading the way for the Lady Patriots was junior
Morgan Godwin, who finished with 28 points. Godwin was an incredible 7-of-8 from beyond the three point arc.

Amanda Compton had the team's only double-double, finishing with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Compton also grabbed 3 steals on the game.

Aliyah Carr was also solid defensively, snagging 6 steals on the game.
In the loss, the Gators' Imani Stokes finished with a team high 16 points and a game high 20 rebounds. India Scott followed with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Nicole Brown finished with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lady Patriots now enter the NCCAA II post-season as the #2 seed in the East Region. They will host the Crimson Eagles of Philadelphia Biblical University in the semi-final round of the regional championship tournament on Tuesday (Feb. 21). The Lady Patriots split with PBU during the regular season. The winner will travel to Lancaster Bible College on Thursday (Feb. 23) to play the Lady Chargers for the East Region Championship, and an automatic berth into the NCCAA II National Championship tournament.
