MADISON, NJ- The Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball team traveled to New Jersey to compete against the Fairleigh University (Florham) Devils. The Patriots were defeated by a final score of 43-78.
The Patriots knew this game would be a challenge, as the Devils were currently ranked first in the NCAA III Freedom Conference. Despite the pressure, the Patriots played a steady first half. Although they would never claim a lead, they were always within arm's reach of the Devils. Under the Devils' intense pressure defense, the Patriots were able to limit their turnovers to nine. Going into the second period, the Patriots were down by 13.
After the break, the Patriots seemed to lose steam. Dealing with a limited bench and injured players, the coaching staff was forced to keep top scorer
Amanda Reich in the game, despite foul trouble. Attempting to play it safe, the Patriots made several costly turnovers and allowed the Devils to score. Halfway through the period,
Amanda Reich fouled out and the Devils took advantage. They would extend their lead to 35 by the end of the game.
The Patriots committed 25 turnovers and shot just 25% from the field.
Senior
Amanda Reich recorded 14 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Vanity Jones tallied five rebounds, three steals and five assists.
Amanda Compton scored 13 points and added nine rebounds in the game.
The Patriots are still without starter
Aliyah Carr.
The women take a holiday break and return to the court January 2, 2013. They will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the Greyhound starters Classic. They will go up against Moravian College at 3 pm.
Go Patriots!
