PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The VFCC women's basketball team lost their second NCCAA II East Region contest of the season against the Lady Defenders of
Baptist Bible College (Clarks Summit, PA) on Thursday (Jan. 5) by a final score of 73-33. The Lady Patriots had a difficult time in finding the hoop tonight, shooting just over 16 percent for the game. After scoring their first basket at nearly eight minutes into the game, Valley Forge was unable to get into any kind of groove, and found themselves trailing twenty points at halftime. The Lady Patriots, who on the season have had several improved second half showings, hoped to claw their way back into contention after the halftime break, but tonight it was all BBC as they cruised to the victory. Tonight's win for the Lady Defenders (NCCAA #3 ranking) brings their season record to 8-3, as they sit atop the East Region. With the loss, the Lady Patriots drop to 5-9 on the season.
For the Lady Patriots it was junior guard
Amanda Reich (Milton, PA, Milton High School) leading the way, recording 12 points scored and three steals.
Junior forward
Amanda Compton (Newark, DE, Elkton Christian Academy) followed with six points and a game high nine rebounds.
Senior
Kaitlyn Antolic (Burlington, NJ, Florence High School) added three steals to her season tally.
The Lady Defenders of Baptist Bible College were led to victory by Kelly Bargfeldt with 22 points and four steals, Kacee Rava who dropped 15 points, and Ruth Butts who added 12 points of her own.
The Lady Patriots will look to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday (Jan. 10) when they travel to Ankeny, Iowa to face the Lady Eagles of
Faith Baptist Bible College. They will then finish off their mid-country swing in Minneapolis, Minnesota next weekend, taking part in the Assemblies of God Credit Union Classic. On the bill for the tournament will be
Northland International University on Thursday (Jan. 12),
North Central University on Friday (Jan. 13), and
Trinity Bible College on Saturday (Jan. 14).
