ALLENTOWN, PA - The VFCC women's basketball team was defeated on Wednesday night (Jan. 25) by the Falcons of Cedar Crest College by a final score of 53-47. The Lady Patriots hoped the third time would be the charm, having lost to the Falcons in their only meetings during the previous two seasons, but tonight would not be that night. After holding the lead for the first five minutes of the game, Valley Forge found themselves down after a Cedar Crest 9-0 run. The Falcons would extend their lead to 13 points at the halftime break (33-20).
In the second half, the Lady Patriots cut their deficit to two points on the effort of a 13-0 run, and after trading baskets for the majority of the half, found themselves within reach down the stretch. Valley Forge's
Kaitlyn Antolic brought them within one point with just over 4:00 to play, but the Lady Falcons kept just out of reach as VFCC was forced to foul in short time. Cedar Crest made their free throws to seal the six point victory.
In the loss,
Amanda Compton finished with 11 points on a 5-for-8 shooting effort from the field, and added 7 rebounds to her season tally.
Senior
Kaitlyn Antolic and junior
Aliyah Carr each finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds.
Junior
Vanity Jones recorded a team high 4 steals.
The Lady Patriots have a few days to recuperate and prepare for a must win East Region game on Monday (Jan. 30) at 7:00 P.M. when they host Lancaster Bible College at the "Pit". The Lady Chargers currently sit at 7-8 on the season, while the Lady Patriots now hold a 9-13 season record.
