PHOENIXVILLE, PA - On Monday night (Jan. 23) the VFCC Lady Patriots defeated the Nittany Lions of Penn State - Hazelton by a final score of 45-38. After a very slow start, it wasn't until after the midpoint of the first that one team started to take control. Valley Forge broke a 4-4 tie of an
Alicia Dorman (Philadelphia, PA) layup at the 10:58 mark; the beginning of a 15-2 run that gave the Lady Patriots an eleven point halftime lead. Five minutes into the second half, Valley Forge extended their lead to 20 points before the Nittany Lions caught the Lady Patriots on their heels and clawed their way back into the game. PSU was within two points with just over 5:00 to play until VFCC regained composure and held on for the victory.
Tonight's game was very evenly matched on the box score in shooting percentage from the floor; however the nets kept cool with both teams shooting under 35%. Rebounds were also closely contested with VFCC holding an advantage by a slim 38-34 margin. Both teams also had trouble handling the basketball, resulting in more than a handful of turnovers; VFCC committed 29 turnovers to PSU-Hazelton's 26.

Morgan Godwin (Fairfax, VA, Fairfax High School) led the way with 15 points scored, including four made three-pointers in the game.
Junior
Amanda Compton (Newark, DE, Elkton Christian Academy) finished with 10 points scored after missing the previous two scheduled games for the Lady Patriots.
In the loss, PSU-Hazelton's Taylor Cannon topped all scorers with 18 points.
With tonight's win, the Lady Patriots improve to 9-12 on the season. Up next for the team will be an away game on Wednesday (Jan. 25) at Cedar Crest College (Allentown, PA). CCU currently holds a 3-15 record and is coming off some tough losses to conference opponents. The next home game for the Lady Patriots will be a Monday (Jan. 30) showdown against NCCAA II East Region opponent, Lancaster Bible College.
