WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Valley Forge Christian College Lady Patriots basketball team defeated host team Gallaudet University in the first round of the Gallaudet Holiday Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 26). Tonight's game was the home opener for the Bison of Gallaudet, but the Lady Patriots played the spoiler, as they put together on of their best team performances of the season. VFCC led Gallaudet in almost every major statistical category in the contest. Most notably, the Lady Patriots won the boards, grabbing 40 rebounds to Gallaudet's 27. This is also the first time this season that the Lady Patriots have led a game in all three scoring categories: shooting percentage (40%), 3-point percentage (36%), and free throw percentage (80%).
Valley Forge was led to victory by juniors
Amanda Reich (Milton, PA, Milton High School) and
Amanda Compton (Newark, DE, Elkton Christian Academy), who scored 16 and 15 points each, respectively. Reich also went 4-for-7 from beyond the arc, helping add to her points total. Junior
Morgan Godwin (Fairfax, VA, Fairfax High School) also shot well from three-point land, scoring all nine of her points from made three-pointers. Senior
Kaitlyn Antolic (Burlington, NJ, Florence High School) recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, eight of the from the defensive boards. Leading the way for Gallaudet in the loss was Claire Tucker, who scored 13 points coming off the bench for the Lady Bison.
The Lady Patriots will face Lehman College (New York, NY) in the championship game of the Gallaudet Holiday Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 27). Lehman College defeated D'Youville College (Buffalo, NY) in the first round of the tournament by a 76-61 final.
