Reich Buckets 1,000th Point in Lady Patriots Loss

Box Score

PHOENIXVILLE, PA
- Valley Forge Christian College's Amanda Reich (Milton, PA, Milton High School) notched her 1,000th career point scored as a Lady Patriot during the finale of the Hersha Hospitality Classic on Saturday (Nov. 19).  Despite a strong showing by Reich, the Lady Patriots women's basketball team was defeated by NCCAA II top ranked Kentucky Christian College for the second time in a week by a final score of 66-47.

Reich becomes only the third women's basketball player in program history to score 1,000 career points.  She joins Sandra (Paradis) Fray and Deborah(Loprete) LoCastro as the only other players to reach the milestone.  Fray was a 1984 graduate of VFCC, and was an NCCAA All-American on the 1983-84 NCCAA National Runners-up team.  She scored a total of 1,575 career points (21 points per game average).  LoCastro, also an 1984 VFCC graduate, scored 1,320 career points for the LAdy Patriots and is also holds career rebounds lead for the women's basketball program with 1,168 rebounds.  Reich, who is in her junior season at VFCC, is averaging just under 500 points per season, and has the potential to take over the all-time women's basketball career points scored lead during her tenure.

In the loss to KCU, Amanda Reich led the game in scoring, bucketing 22 points, and was also a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe.  Junior Vanity Jones (Kearneysville, WV, Jefferson High School) added 11 rebounds to her season total, followed by Amanda Compton (Newark, DE, Elkton Christian Academy) who brought down nine boards, and also contributed to the scoring with 10 points.  Valley Forge won the boards, out-rebounding Kentucky Christian 33-29, but it was their offense that led to their demise.  VFCC shot a season low 28% (16-for-56) from the field, while KCU shot a controlling 25-for-52 (48%) to head back home (Grayson, KY) with a flawless 9-0 record early in the 2011-2012 season.

In the early women's game of the day, Ohio Christian University defeated Baptist Bible College (Clarks Summit, PA) by a final score of 78-68. The Lady Trailblazers held a 14 point lead at halftime; a lead that the Lady Defenders were not able to overcome, even after winning the second half on the scoreboard.  Ohio Christian was lead to victory by Shelby Roe and Sharonda Jones, who each bucketed 21 points on the contest.  In a losing effort, BBC's Ruth Butts did her best to keep pace, scoring a team high 20 points.  Jessica White added a game high 16 rebounds for Baptist Bible College.

Next up for the Lady Patriots will be a home game against Eastern University on Tuesday (Nov. 22).  The Eastern Eagles are 2-1 on the season, while the Lady Patriots are looking to end their three-game skid heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.  Tip-off will be at 5:00 pm at the VFCC Pit gymnasium.
