PHOENIXVILLE, PA – The Valley Forge women's basketball team started off 2011 with a victory on Monday (Jan. 3), when they hosted Penn State Brandywine.
Brandywine stormed out the gates, going up 8-0 in the first five minutes of action. However, the Lady Patriots recovered and tied the game up a few minutes later. The two teams went back and forth for a while but eventually, Valley Forge would gain control of the game and concluded the first half with a 9-point advantage (31-22).
The Lady Patriots continued to pull away in the second half and led by as many as 23 points. The final score was 72-53.
Shawneal McKeither (Philadelphia, PA) and Amanda Reich (Milton, PA, Milton High School) recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, and two assists a piece. McKeither was able to tack on three steals.
Senior Charla Benton (Milford, DE, Greenwood Mennonite School) earned 11 rebounds and eight points.
Sophomore Amanda Compton (Newark, DE, Elkton Christian Academy) added 10 points.
Junior Kaitlyn Antolic (Burlington, NJ, Florence High School) grabbed nine rebounds.
Sophomore Aliyah Carr (Philadelphia, PA, High School of Engineering and Science) handed out five assists.
