ROSEMONT, PA – Three days after the Lady Patriots had one of their best offensive games of the season, the Valley Forge women shoot a woeful 29.6% from the field, en route to a 69-63 loss to Rosemont College.
Exactly 50 field goal attempts failed to make it through the hoop on Tuesday (Dec. 7), as the Lady Patriots would make just 21-of-71 shots.
Even under such unlucky conditions, the Lady Patriots still had a shot to win. After an Amanda Reich free-throw, the Valley Forge women trailed by five points (61-56) with 1:19 remaining. Unfortunately, the Lady Patriots would get no closer than that, because Rosemont's Christa Bednarek would drill a huge three-pointer with 52 seconds remaining to pretty much eliminate Valley Forge's chances at a victory. A pair of free-throws by Valley Forge's Talaya Woodall would decrease the margin (69-63), but wasn't enough in light of the waning game clock. The Lady Patriots' final two three-pointers didn't fall.
Sophomore Amanda Reich (Milton, PA, Milton High School) finished with a game-high 23 points.
Senior Charla Benton (Milford, DE, Greenwood Mennonite School) tacked on 13 points.
Aliyah Carr (Philadelphia, PA, High School of Engineering and Science) and Vanity Jones (Kearneysville, WV, Jefferson High School) each finished with three assists. Carr also had three steals, while Jones also had a pair. Jones recorded a team-high six rebounds.
Freshman Shawneal McKeither (Philadelphia, PA) earned three steals.
Senior Talaya Woodall (Trenton, NJ) finished a game-high six steals.
The Lady Patriots will round out 2010 with two more road games. The ladies will take on Wilson College on Friday (Dec. 10) and Eastern University on Friday (Dec. 17).
