CIRCLEVILLE, OH - The Valley Forge women's basketball team battled it out with Ohio Christian University on Saturday (Nov. 6), but fell short (72-71) on the second day of the tip-off tournament.
Ultimately, it came down to free-throws, as the Lady Patriots held advantages in several statistical categories. The ladies shot 41.4% (24-58) from the field and 50% (5-10) from behind the arc, but wish they would've had a little more success from the charity stripe. Valley Forge shot 58.1% (18-31) from the free-throw line, and later realized that those 13 missed opportunities could have secured a very impressive victory against last year's NCCAA II National Runner-ups.
The Lady Patriots will get another try at the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers this upcoming weekend, as the two teams are set to meet at tournament hosted by Cincinnati Christian University.
While NCCAA II All-American Amanda Reich stole the show last year, when the Lady Patriots, who played another tough game with Ohio Christian University, this year's match-up included contributions from a few others.
With Ohio Christian's target set on Reich, a few of the other Lady Patriots stepped up.
Sophomore Amanda Compton (Newark, DE, Elkton Christian Academy) poured in 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, both game-highs. Compton also recorded three steals.
Freshman Shawneal McKeither (Philadelphia, PA) 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. McKeither was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and dished out three assists.
Senior Charla Benton (Milford, DE, Greenwood Mennonite School) provided a huge lift, as she shot 6-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three-point line. Benton finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Senior Talaya Woodall (Trenton, NJ) recorded game-high four steals and team-high four assists.
Sophomore Aliyah Carr (Philadelphia, PA, High School of Engineering and Science)also handed out four assists.
Sophomore Vanity Jones (Kearneysville, WV, Jefferson High School) came up with three steals.
Sophomore Amanda Reich (Milton, PA, Milton High School) pulled in seven boards and knocked down a pair of three-pointers (2-5).
The Lady Patriots will make their way back to Ohio, this time to Cincinnati. There they will play the host Cincinnati Christian University and Ohio Christian University for the second time this season.
